Dr. Gianmaria Bonari
Biosketch
I am a senior researcher at the Department of Life Sciences of University of Siena (Italy). I was previously a junior researcher at the Free University of Bozen-Bolzano, Faculty of Science and Technology (Italy). I did my postdoc at the Masaryk University of Brno, Department of Botany and Zoology (Czech Republic). I received my PhD at the University of Siena, Department of Life Sciences (Italy). My scientific interests are botany, vegetation science and conservation biology.
My research revolves around plants and involves a thorough understanding of plant communities and habitats at different spatial scales. My academic training includes ecoinformatics, classification of plant communities and habitats, management and conservation aspects.
I am the custodian of the CircumMed vegetation-plot database which was developed for broad-scale studies on vegetation classification, plant invasion ecology, macroecology, and biological conservation.

My scientific interests fill the niches of Botany and Vegetation Science. My research involves a thorough understanding of European (but also North African and Near East ones) pine forests, with a particular focus on the Mediterranean and Submediterranean types.
